To boost creative flexibility and idea fluency by challenging conventional thinking through imaginative, exaggerated “What if…” scenarios.
People often think within practical, habitual boundaries. This limits creative exploration and prevents teams from discovering radical or unconventional solutions that could spark true innovation.
The “What If…” Game introduces playful constraint-based prompts that push users to reimagine a problem from extreme or unexpected angles. Each card reframes the challenge, forcing lateral thinking and inviting bold, original ideas.
Inspired by divergent thinking and constraint-based creativity research, the game leverages cognitive reframing – intentionally disrupting habitual mental pathways to expand associative networks. By exaggerating conditions, the brain engages in creative problem-solving that feels like play rather than effort.
10–15 minutes per session.
Light Facilitation (ideal for groups or creative workshops).
A deck of “What If…” cards or printed prompt sheets, whiteboard or notepad for idea capture, timer (optional).
