To rapidly blast through creative blocks by forcing unexpected connections, reducing the pressure for “perfect” ideas, and unlocking playful, associative thinking.
15-20 minutes
Creative blocks kill momentum. When teams get stuck in the same thought loops, they default to safe, predictable ideas – or worse, no ideas at all. Perfectionism, fear of judgment, and overthinking shut down innovation before it even starts.
Idea Improv Olympics is a high-energy, low-pressure creative workout designed to remove mental blocks. Using improv techniques, random word prompts, and timed sprints, teams are pushed to generate a high volume of wild, weird, and unexpected ideas – fast.
You don’t need to be an improv coach or creative guru to run this – just bring energy, keep things moving, and protect the “no judgment” vibe.
The Idea Improv Olympics is built on how the brain breaks through creative blocks and forms new thinking patterns. By aiming for volume over perfection, players activate divergent thinking – the brain’s mode for idea generation and exploration. The more ideas you generate, the more original your best ones become.
Whiteboard/flip chart, markers, timer, a “Word Bag” with slips of paper containing random nouns (optional), or a device with internet access.
