Calming Breath

Breathe out stress, breathe in calm.

Calming Breath

Objective

To help users quickly reduce stress and anxiety by activating the body’s natural relaxation response through the 4-7-8 breathing technique.

Problem Statement

During periods of stress or anxiety, the mind races and the body remains tense, making it hard to feel grounded or relaxed.

Solution Provided

“Calming Breath” uses the 4-7-8 breathing pattern to slow the heart rate, calm the nervous system, and bring the body and mind into a state of restful awareness.

The Science

Developed by Dr. Andrew Weil and rooted in pranayama (yogic breathwork), the 4-7-8 technique stimulates the vagus nerve and enhances parasympathetic activity. Studies show controlled breathing can reduce cortisol levels, ease anxiety, and improve focus and sleep quality.

Time Commitment

2–5 minutes.

Facilitation Level

No facilitation.

Materials Needed

None (optional: a timer or calming background music)
